One Equal Heart's Mission

We collaborate with Indigenous Peoples in Chiapas, Mexico, to spark leadership, build equity, and catalyze change.

We support food security, women’s rights, clean water, and language preservation. Projects address the root causes of poverty and respect home-grown development solutions that promote sustainability and foster cultural values.

Indigenous women in Chiapas need your support!

“When I was a child, I loved to learn new things and participate in school and community events. But when I became a teenager, I suddenly was excluded from most community activities. I realized that women are not allowed to speak. What I had to say was considered worthless, simply because I am a woman."  These are the words of Roselia Luna, a 16-year old Tseltal Indigenous girl. Hers is the experience of so many Tseltal Indigenous women.

But you can break down the walls of exclusion that Roselia and other Indigenous women face! Your gift will transform the lives of Roselia and other Indigenous women to join the Indigenous community Radio Ach’ Lequilc’op and develop themselves as leaders in their communities, inspiring other women to break down walls of exclusion.

A year ago, Roselia’s life took an unexpected turn when she joined Tseltal Radio as a volunteer and began her training as a reporter and broadcaster. With training and support, Roselia now gives women to speak to their communities, transmitting their voices through the Radio to an audience of 40,000 Tseltal-speaking people every day!

Roselia is an example of transformation and inspiration for hundreds of Tseltal women who, by listening to her, realize that their voice counts, and their opinions and perspectives can and should be heard and valued.

But we need your help! With your donation, you can ensure not only that a group of 29 women leaders continues, but also that more women join as reporters and broadcasters to inspire and transform the lives of many more women in the Tseltal communities.

One Equal Heart's project partner, the Indigenous community Radio Ach’ Lequilc’op is the vital communications platform for the Tseltal communities to have access to relevant information and share knowledge about sustainable living as well as to advance women’s rights and women's education. The Radio team convenes and trains volunteer women like Roselia to become reporters and broadcasters.

Can we count on your donation to ensure that Roselia breaks down walls of exclusion by raising her voice and those of many other women?

In communities where women are kept silent, excluded from even attending public meetings, Radio Ach’ Lequilc’op allows Roselia and 28 other women to broadcast their voices to 40,000 people!

Here is how your donation helps:

• $25 pays for one woman's monthly transportation to cover news in local communities.
• $50 pays for meals for 2 women during their 3 months of training.
• $100 pays for one woman's recording equipment.
• $200 pays for one training session for 29 women broadcasters.
• $500 pays for 2 months of Internet data for women reporters.
