- Access to safe and supportive housing in an adult family home with trained staff

- Opportunities and encouragement for residents to take part in meaningful, inclusive activities at home and in the community

- Collaboration with others to broaden the resources for people with IDD

Description

Olympic Neighbors is a nonprofit created to address the lack of supportive housing options for adults with IDD.

As parents age and can no longer care for their adult children with intellectual and developmental disabilities they need safe, affordable housing supports in the community.

Olympic Neighbors is currently operating the only adult family home for this population in all of Jefferson County. Adult family homes are a cost-effective and inclusive model that is used through out the country. It supports people with IDD to live in regular homes in regular neighbors with the staff support they need to be happy, healthy and a part of their local community.

Our residents are employed, participate in classes or routine weekly volunteer jobs. They have developed hobbies and interest, they participate in events and clubs, and have friends and other meaningful relationships.  Residents are healthy, happy and engaged and are seen as contributing members of the community. 

At this time, Washington State is near the bottom in the nation for funding for services for people with developmental disabilities. Without more services like ours, people with developmental disabilities are at risk of becoming homeless or forced to live in an institution. We hope the success of our program will inspire other organizations to develop these much needed services and allow us to grow our program and help more people.
