Mission

The NWNHC Family Fund was founded to help families in need experience the healing power of the horse, without worrying about the costs. The Fund's purpose is to conduct healing retreats for military families and provide equestrian summer camp scholarships to youth from disadvantaged and/or struggling families.

Description

Warrior Family Retreats
There are many military programs to help warriors transition from the battlefront to the homefront, but the families are often left to deal with deployment challenges on their own. Through the Warrior Family Retreats and Warrior Couples Retreats, military families and couples can get away to the country for a weekend with horses and family healing time.

Since 2010 the program has helped military families address the transition challenges experienced by their soldier or sailor returning from a long separation and the realities of war. Husbands and wives work with certified equine-assisted therapists to learn new life skills and reconnect as loving partners. At the Warrior Family Retreat, children also get the opportunity to share their deployment experiences with their peers and have fun family time with their parents. At both retreats, everyone enjoys stress-free fun time, handling and riding horses and making lifetime memories.

Summer Camp Scholarships
As parents and grandparents, we want our children to experience the same opportunities as their peers. For a family facing single parenthood, job layoff, under employment or homelessness, their horse crazy child's request to go to horse camp or take riding lessons is usually meet with, "sorry we can't afford it." This can be devastating to the child.

Every year the NWNHC Family Fund helps those struggling parents say "yes." with scholarships to attend horse camp or subsidize horse lessons. Families receive full or partial scholarships based on need.
