Mission

We strengthen the ecological and economic vitality of Northwest forests and communities by connecting landowners with the knowledge, skills, and markets they need to steward their forests.

Description

What are private forests for? It used to be that the answer was simple: lumber. But Washington and Oregon's non-industrial landowners count on their forests for much more than that. To name just a few:

* wildlife habitat for all creatures great and small;
* clean water for salmon and municipal supplies;
* carbon storage to stabilize the climate;
* recreation, foraging, and balm for the soul.

NNRG helps forest owners become more informed forest stewards - understanding the potential in their lands and learning to make them more resilient to climate change and wildfire, for their own sake and for generations to come.

With workshops, demonstration projects, and videos like the ones on this page, we bring landowners the knowledge and resources they need to care for the forest.

Your gift of $50 equips a new forester with that most basic of tree-measuring tools: a 50-foot diameter tape. Two hundred dollars sends one of our experts to walk the land with a first-time forest owner and advise them on the opportunities their forest presents. And your donation in any amount will help us demonstrate that society can obtain the timber we need while leaving in our wake a forest that is valuable to salmon, salamanders, and Homo sapiens. Thank you.
