Mission

Methow Valley Riding Unlimited delivers horsemanship programs that empower people and enrich lives. Programs are driven by our philosophy that thoughtfully presented horsemanship experiences  provide opportunities for growing joy, connection and character. We are inclusive, offering a wide variety of service to folks of all ages and abilities. We strive to eliminate barriers by providing scholarships and outreach programs.

Description

MVRU is the only organization of its kind in Okanogan County,  the largest and poorest county in the state, having a high level of need for free and reduced cost youth programming. We have been accredited by the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International for over 30 years and combine therapeutic and educational programs into a comprehensive program with the goal of empowering our students and enriching their lives.

MVRU strives to eliminate barriers by offering scholarships and outreach programs; nobody who wants to participate and can benefit from horse time is prevented from doing so by inability to pay. We believe that our programs should be accessible to ALL, regardless of ambulatory or mental status, age, gender, or socioeconomic position. Scholarships are available for ALL horsemanship sessions, including summer camps.

We partner with Methow Valley School District for our 5 outreach programs: Let 'Em Ride, Let 'Em Stride and Hony Connections, all experiential education opportunities for 3rd -5th graders, with strong social and mental health components; and HorsePower and Open BarnYard for middle and high school age students. These equine assisted mental health programs are free of charge for families, and  transportation for students is provided by the school district.
