Description
Macha Theatre Works is a small, dynamic theatre company founded in 2001 and has been operating under the name Macha Theatre Works since 2017, opening with the world premiere of Happy, Happy, Happy... by Lisa Every and Jenn Ruzumna. Macha produced the world premiere and Gregory Award winning play, Sheathed by Maggie Lee as well as two plays by Joy McCullough, Smoke and Dust and Blood Water Paint.
Macha is a non-profit arts organization showcasing exceptional female artists, delivering innovative education programs, and staging new theatrical works which feature strong female characters. Macha envisions a world where fearless female voices thrive. During the pandemic Macha produced 21 world premier solo shows by local writer performers. Each of these shows was live streamed for one night only and were 17 Minutes in length. Out of Macha's 17 Minute Stories series MTW and Seattle Rep's Public Works created a Festival of Personal Stories with 10 women from the PW program.
Macha has developed Macha Youth Voices inspiring teens to find their voice through personal narrative. In 2022 Macha successfully produced the world premiere of The Fifth Wave by Jenn Ruzumna and Lisa Every. Macha is on track to continue producing into the future and is currently working on raising money to build back the staff needed to move back to full time in-person production. Your Support Matters.
