Kiwanis Camp Casey

A nonprofit organization

Mission

The North Central Kiwanis Memorial Fund supports charitable services for children and adults who live with disabilities. Our primary project is Kiwanis Camp Casey. We support the camper's independence and ability to experience summer fun they would typically not be able to experience without the assistance of the camp. We champion leadership development and maturity advancement of our counselors. We work cooperatively with our community and the greater Kiwanis family to accomplish our mission.

Description

Kiwanis Camp Casey is a week-long summer camp for children ages 6-17 with physical disabilities. Sponsored by the North Central Seattle Kiwanis Club for 90 years, the camp is staffed entirely by volunteers. Located at a new location, Camp Horizon in Birch Bay, Washington. You may have known us from our camp location at the Fort Casey Conference Center, next to the Fort Casey State Park on Whidbey Island for over 35 years. The North Central Seattle Kiwanis Club rents the facilities from Lion's Camp Horizon. Camp provides an often much-needed respite for parent caregivers, a fun, safe camp experience for campers, often leading to improved independence and self-confidence. A wonderful consequence of the Casey experience is the independence and ability to communicate care needs our campers develop and carry with them into adulthood and more fully independent living. Leadership skills and personal growth are achieved for high school and college-age counselors who often seek employment in the health care and education sector. All participants form an appreciation for the abilities and accomplishments of people of all abilities and backgrounds. Finally, friendship with service is achieved for the many local area Kiwanis clubs and volunteers who assist each year; Kiwanis Camp Casey is truly a special place for all involved!

Every summer we return to 'the best week of the year' at Kiwanis Camp Casey. We are ecstatic to be partnering with our friends at Lions Camp Horizon to continue our camp traditions of talent night, stories around the campfire, and camp songs! Kiwanis Camp Casey is provided completely free of charge for campers and their families. This means we are responsible for fundraising regarding use of facilities, meals, and programming throughout the week. Additionally, money raised here will help to expand our efforts to provide a social peer-to-peer connection for our campers after they leave Casey with our efforts in The CREW Club which meets monthly throughout the year to keep our Casey campers in touch and provide them with peer role models for their life after Casey.
