Imagine struggling with everyday tasks like picking up a prescription, shopping for groceries, or finding transportation to a medical appointment. Now imagine feeling lonely, with little connection to others. This is the daily reality for many of our neighbors facing challenges related to aging, disability, or adversity.

For 30 years, Island Volunteer Caregivers (IVC) has been here to help. Founded in 1996 by compassionate Bainbridge Island residents, IVC began with a simple but powerful idea: neighbors helping neighbors. They recognized that many community members needed practical support to remain independent, and just as importantly, human connection.

Since then, IVC has grown into a network of dedicated volunteers who provide transportation, companionship, caregiver support, meals through the IVC Care Kitchen, and other essential services. These simple acts of care allow older adults and others facing challenges to remain safe, connected, and independent in their own homes.

As we celebrate our 30th year, the heart of IVC remains the same: a community where neighbors show up for one another so that no one has to face life’s challenges alone.
