Caring for historic properties involves more than preserving buildings. It's also about the gardens and grounds that surround them, like those at Historic Seattle's Good Shepherd Center, the Dearborn House, and the Garden House.

A Retreat For All

A garden isn't just a collection of plants-it's a sanctuary. And at its heart, a garden gazebo serves as a refuge, a sheltered gathering space, and a symbol of community. 

For decades, the gazebo at the landmarked Garden House on Beacon Hill has offered such a peaceful retreat. Added 43 years ago to the grounds of this 136-year-old property, it has been a place for quiet reflection, joyful gatherings, and connection. 

But time and weather have taken their toll. Floorboards, benches and railings are rotting, the roof is leaking, and the paint is peeling. To avoid further deterioration of this beloved space, we need to act now.

With your support, we can restore the garden gazebo, returning it to its rightful place as a welcoming retreat for all. You'll also ensure that all the gardens and grounds across our properties are at their seasonal best - ready to welcome and delight the community. 

Thanks to a generous stretch fund created by our staff and volunteers, all gifts will be matched up to $3,765 - meaning your gift and your impact goes twice as far!

Your Gift Makes a Difference 

Since purchasing the property in December of 2021, we've already begun revitalizing the house and grounds, led by our dedicated team-including our Horticulture Manager, Megan Stanek, who has been working tirelessly to restore the gardens including the 100-year-old pear trees. This fall, we'll begin major renovations to the building. 

But before that, we need to care for a truly special space - the gazebo in the north garden, a cherished community green space in the heart of a growing, changing neighborhood.
