Habitat for Humanity of Snohomish County

A nonprofit organization

Mission

Seeking to put God's love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope. With our community, we build and repair homes for low-income families of all faiths, races, and backgrounds across Snohomish County.

Description

We build homes because families in our community can't afford a traditional mortgage, even when working full-time. They come from unsafe and unstable living situations with an average family size is 4.2. Snohomish County population growth has outpaced housing growth by more than 3:1, leading to unsustainable inflation of home prices. This unbalanced growth trajectory has created a housing crisis that has made it even harder for cost-burdened families and individuals to find safe and affordable housing. In Snohomish County School Districts, 1 out of every 3 students experienced homelessness, was unhoused, and/or fell under low income.

By involving the community in providing volunteer labor, gifted construction materials and financial donations, our cost to build a home is typically 40% of the market rate. With low interest financing, the dream of home ownership becomes reality for families who never thought it possible. The family invests hours of "sweat equity" as their down payment and they work side-by-side with volunteer builders to construct their new home.

Our Home Repair Service provides no-cost home repair services to low-income families, veterans, seniors and persons with disabilities. The need in the community is high. The Habitat office typically receives 3 to 5 calls per week from people who cannot afford to fix falling gutters, crumbling stairs, or sagging siding. Seniors who experience a physical setback need a ramp built to keep the outside world accessible for doctor appointments and other necessities. The repairs mean a family can stop struggling to maintain their home on a fixed budget or a senior can keep their home longer to age-in-place.

Will you help us build or repair a home for a Snohomish County neighbor today?
