Mission

Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope.

In Jefferson County, many of the people who keep our community running cannot afford to live here.

They are the ones caring for our children, stocking grocery shelves, assisting in clinics, preparing food, and supporting local nonprofits. They contribute every day and still struggle to find a place to call home.

A minimum wage worker would need to work more than 80 hours per week to afford the Fair Market Rent of around $1,500. As housing costs continue to rise, more families and essential workers are being pushed out of the community they help sustain.

But together, neighbors can open the door.

Meet Cale.

Cale has lived in Port Townsend for over 15 years, working as a caregiver supporting people with intellectual disabilities, a role he’s held for more than a decade. His work is essential, providing daily care and support for some of the community’s most vulnerable residents.

But like many local workers, stable housing has remained out of reach.

Since moving here, Cale has lived in a tiny house and now in an unfinished basement apartment, doing what he can to stay in the community he serves, alongside his four-year-old tuxedo cat, Lucinda.

Through Habitat for Humanity, he finally has a path to a permanent home.

For Cale, it’s not just about having a place to live. It’s about stability, relief from constant stress, and the chance to create a home of his own for the first time with Lucinda.

“I’m very grateful to everyone who works, volunteers, and donates to Habitat.”

Habitat homeowners partner with us, completing financial education, contributing hundreds of hours through build work or other Habitat roles, and purchasing their homes with affordable mortgages.

Because of Habitat’s permanent affordability model, these homes remain affordable for generations to come.
