Greater Maple Valley Community Center

A nonprofit organization

Mission

To enrich our community through quality human services and social activities.

Description

Our History:
The Greater Maple Valley Community Center was established in 1976. The original intent of the Center was to serve the senior population in what was then a rural slice of unincorporated King County. Since that time, our programs and activities have evolved and changed based on the needs of the participants. This evolution continues as the City of Maple Valley and the surrounding areas grow and change.

What are Human Services?
Human services help people to live a normal life-they allow them to work, shop, attend school and places of faith, participate in leisure time activities, take care of themselves their home, etc. The services aim to maintain the highest possible quality and dignity in their lives

Who Do We Serve?
The Community Center serves an area that is roughly defined by the Tahoma School District. We provided programs and activities that directly impacted over 2,000 registered participants last year. What are uncounted are the lives of those in a "secondary circle," (those whose lives are touched by those we work with) who are positively influenced by our services.

In many ways our success is measured by what does not happen. Effective prevention, and health & wellness programs result in, among other things, diminished instances of juvenile substance abuse, a decreased chance of intimate partner violence, fewer falls and health challenges among seniors, and reduced disruption of family dynamics.
