Mission

The mission of the Finn Hill Neighborhood Alliance (FHNA) is to coordinate our active community of residents and regional partners to preserve, protect, and restore Finn Hill's extraordinary natural environment, and to promote nature connection and the welfare of the Finn Hill community by engaging in civic issues.

Description

Forest preservation. Green space protection and advocacy. Citizen-led projects to improve nature connection and quality of life for our neighbors. Education and advocacy for endangered salmon and pollinator species. Community building. Public education. Civic engagement with an eye toward responsible development in our city. Stewardship of the salmon streams that run beside our streets. This is all the work of Finn Hill Neighborhood Alliance, an organization that started as a grassroots project of neighbors who wanted to preserve and steward their watershed, and the endangered O.O. Denny Park a salmon stream ran through. After 30 years of successes in protection of ecologically precious wild spaces, FHNA has earned a reputation with residents and city and county government as a mature and capable community partner able to make great things happen locally. It's the investment of the citizens here that really makes it work.

FHNA is the Finn Hill neighborhood's representative to the City of Kirkland. It works on behalf of the residents to preserve and expand Finn Hill's greenspace, maintain its parks, protect its tree canopy, improve its roads and trails, and provide timely information to the community about important City initiatives.

FHNA is currently working with the City of Kirkland and King County to create the Finn Hill Green Loop - a wooded, walkable corridor that encircles Finn Hill, connecting its parks and linking to regional trails in Kirkland, Kenmore and Bothell. It's an exciting vision that has garnered support from local government. FHNA has recently made several land acquisitions of key parcels needed to complete this loop. That is forest land that will be preserved for generations to come instead of simply enriching developers.

FHNA involves the community by hosting trail tours guided by naturalists and work parties focused on restoring native vegetation in its parks. It hosts community meetings several times a year for public education and civic engagement, and hosts a beloved community festival in the summer for outreach and community building. Grants and donations are its sole source of income.
