Because the love between people and their pets should never be limited.
This summer, Doney Coe Pet Clinic marks 40 years of making sure that access to veterinary care isn't based on income, so families can keep their beloved pets healthy and at home.
Founded in 1986 as the nation’s first no-cost veterinary clinic for unhoused and low-income families, Doney Coe began as a small volunteer pop-up at Union Gospel Mission, providing basic vaccinations and wellness care and funding referrals to local veterinary clinics for cases demanding more complex care. Over time, it has grown into a vital safety net for our community.
Today, from our clinic in SoDo, we provide comprehensive veterinary care, including diagnostics, treatment for chronic disease, procedures and surgeries, dental care, and compassionate end-of-life services for pets whose families would otherwise have nowhere to turn.
This milestone does more than just honor our history. It reminds us of what a community can accomplish when it comes together around the belief that every pet should have access to care.
Over the past four decades, Doney Coe has expanded access to veterinary care thanks to the support of this community.
Individual donors, family foundations, and local businesses have helped transform the lives of thousands of pets and the people who love them. Animals that otherwise would have gone without treatment now receive the care and medication they need to live healthy, pain-free lives.
Some supporters give faithfully every month for years. Others stretch to make a one-time gift when they can. Businesses invest in the communities they serve, and foundations recognize the significance of the human-animal bond and the role that healthy pets contribute to public health
Because of this collective support,
Doney Coe provides more than 2,300
no-cost veterinary visits each year.
The need continues to grow, and
our goal is to expand to 4,000. visits
annually, so more families can keep
their beloved pets healthy and at home.
Reaching that future will require new partnerships, fresh sources of funding, and more people who believe in this mission. Every donation, every volunteer hour, and every advocate who shares our story helps keep pets with the families who love them.
With your continued support, we will ensure that the next forty years bring even more healing, more compassion, and more families who never have to face the heartbreak of losing a pet simply because care was beyond reach. With ongoing partnership and generosity, we can ensure that the next 40 years are ones in which Seattle’s beloved pets never go without care.
