Cougar Mountain Zoo is dedicated to increasing the understanding and appreciation of the Earth's wildlife and the role of humanity in nature through education, conservation, propagation and exhibition.

New animals. New opportunities. Same mission.

Something big just happened at Cougar Mountain Zoo. When the beloved The Reptile Zoo closed its doors, a group of incredible animals needed a new home. We were honored to step up. Now, 4 sulcata tortoises, 5 snakes, and 1 iguana have found their next chapter here with us. But this isn’t just about giving them a place to stay. It’s about giving them a purpose.

A New Chapter for Reptiles

Reptiles are some of the most misunderstood animals on the planet. Snakes get feared. Iguanas get overlooked. Tortoises get underestimated. But when people see them up close, everything changes. 

That moment when a kid realizes a snake isn’t “scary”…
When someone locks eyes with a tortoise and slows down for a second…
When curiosity replaces fear…

That’s what these animals are here to do. These reptiles aren’t just residents. They’re ambassadors. And they still have an important job to do, helping people understand and care about wildlife.

Introducing Summer Camp at Cougar Mountain Zoo

This summer, we’re creating a space for kids to go beyond just visiting the zoo… and actually step into the world of animal care and conservation.

Our new summer camp is designed to give kids real experiences:

• Learning directly from zookeepers
• Getting closer to animals in meaningful ways
• Understanding how to care for wildlife and the environment

This isn’t just another camp. It’s where curiosity turns into passion.

And these new reptiles? They’re going to be a huge part of that experience.
