Coriolis Dance Collective

Mission

Coriolis Dance forwards the artistic voices and leadership of those most impacted by patriarchy, sexism, and misogyny by celebrating the creation and presentation of stories exploring strength, vulnerability, resilience, and softness.

Vision and Goals

Our Vision- To build a dance community unburdened by patriarchy, sexism, and misogyny.

Our Goals-

This year:

  •  We started a dance festival that offered hourly pay to all participants- and produced Wielding Forms Dance Festival January 2023.
  • To highlight and support voices outside of our artistic directors- Wielding Forms Dance Festival highlighted four choreographers new to the Coriolis audience- Shenandoah Harris of LA, Meredith Pellon of Seattle, Nicole Cardona of Seattle, and Kyrin Grey of Seattle
  • To produce multiple works within a season- This year we plan to produce two programs, with the hope of eventually producing four large works  a season
  • Hold a residency at Fort Warden allowing Founder Christin Call and Artistic Director Madeleine Gregor to explore the continuation of Undiscovere’d Country

In The Coming Years:

  • Have out of state residency and performances
  • Start $10,000 reserve
  • Tour twice a year
  • Own our own space for performances and classes/workshops

MORE ABOUT US

Coriolis Dance was founded by two women, Christin Call and Natascha Greenwalt, who create stories about strength, vulnerability, resilience,  and softness.  Our works are vulnerable and complexly-styled spectacles, interweaving contemporary ballet and immersive multimedia. We are the originators of Postballet, an approach that expands on the rigors of ballet technique by infusing it with the contemporary/postmodern practices of improvisation, embodiment, and gender inclusivity.  Since 2008 we have made and presented over 30 emotionally raw works that renew perception around themes such as mental illness, grief, feminism, sexuality, sexual violence, and homelessness.
