Mission

Our mission is to develop healthy children, create strong families, build engaged communities, and speak and advocate for children.

“We believe that the well-being of our communities depends on investing in families early; and joining with families in meaningful ways builds hope for the future.”

Description

Children’s Home Society of Washington has been serving children and families for the last 126 years. In more recent years, our focus has shifted to strengthening the entire family so that we can keep families together, improve family well-being, and create equity.

We are committed to:

Being family-focused. As we look to the future, we plan to advance efforts that address the well-being of the entire family. This starts with shifting our own focus from child-centered approaches to more family-centered approaches.

Being early. Our programs are grounded in the belief that by investing early in programs and services that strengthen families, this will ensure their well-being not only for today but well into the future.

Being there. Throughout the pandemic, we have continued to be there every step of the way to support and strengthen families through our three program pillars—family support, early learning, and behavioral health.

INVESTING IN FAMILIES

There is no right way to be a family, but there is a right way to support one. We provide timely and compassionate support along the way so they know they are not alone on their journey. We offer programs and services from among our three core program pillars:

Family Support programs serve nearly 5,000 children and their families every year through basic needs assistance, our Triple Point program for LGBTQ+ youth, after-school programs, parent education, family navigation, and family resource centers.

Early Learning programs serve nearly 1,000 children (ages birth to 5) and their families every year through Early Head Start and Head Start, Parents as Teachers, ParentChild+, and the Children’s Waiting Room.

Behavioral Health programs serve nearly 1,400 children and their families every year through child and family counseling services.
