Central Branch Preschool

A nonprofit organization

Mission

Our mission is to provide a play-based preschool experience that encourages children to develop meaningful and deep relationships with self and others, within a community where children of all races, ethnicities and economic levels learn together and where families of color thrive.

Description

In 1968, in the wake of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s assassination, Central Branch was born. Central Branch was dreamed by Pat Melgard and Marge Johnson, who shared a common vision to build community. They honored Dr. King's dream with one of their own: A community committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, and a place for social emotional growth and learning. Standing against racial injustice is part of our past, present, and future. We know diversity of backgrounds and creative perspectives is what our communities, institutions, and workplaces need to thrive. We believe that play is serious business for children. It is their way of rehearsing the connections-between feelings and language, language and action, and between themselves and those who may look or act quite differently from them-that will make life meaningful. By joining us and making a gift, you will be supporting Central Branch today in fulfilling its commitment to the values we were founded on, and making an investment in our long-term sustainability.
