About D.E.A.F.

Founded in 1989, the Deaf Education Advocates Foundation (D.E.A.F.) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) charitable organization that raises funds to enhance education and enrich student experiences at the Washington School for the Deaf (WSD). 

Donations support activities, services, equipment, and opportunities that may not be available through WSD funding alone. All contributions go directly to ongoing projects, including academic, athletic, residential, and community events; scholarships; Special Olympics; artist-in-residence programs; and mini-grants for staff and students. Past support has included Deaf Academic Bowls, Math Team tournaments, Book Club materials, Youth Leadership camps, cheerleading camps, Western States Basketball tournaments, athletic-field concession stand renovations, workshops, and trainings. For students living in residential cottages, D.E.A.F. has funded educational materials, books, toys and games, outdoor play equipment, and arts and crafts supplies.

Deaf Education Advocates Foundation is participating in Give More 24! to raise funds that support arts programming at Washington School for the Deaf (WSD). For Deaf children, access to the arts builds confidence, strengthens literacy, and deepens connections to Deaf Culture.

100% of all donations will go toward:

• Supporting media arts, dance, theater, and visual arts programs at WSD
• Providing opportunities for Deaf children to learn from Deaf performers and celebrate their culture and identity
• Supporting an Artist-in-Residence program at WSD
• Expanding visual arts opportunities for local communities

Your contribution will help advance equity by giving Deaf children access to arts education and creative opportunities that honor their language, culture, and identity.
