Mission
To enhance the education of students at the Washington School for the Deaf by generating funds through philanthropy.
The family of Guy Charles Wonder has challenged you to match to their donation of $1,000 more to the Guy Charles Wonder Jr. Memorial Arts Fund. We are half-way to the $10,000 goal before the DEAF Board considers distributing this money. Your matching donations will go to various arts education resources, including visual art, theatre, videomaking, artist in residence, performers & presenters, & literature like ASL poetry & storytelling. Come support to reach our stars, $10,000.
Guy Charles Wonder Jr. was an exemplary De'VIA artist as a Deaf visual fine artist, ASL storyteller and theatrical arts artist. As a WSD beloved alumnus, he has served as an Artist-in-Residence at WSD, taught art to K-12 students and helped create permanent displays at WSD’s Lloyd Auditorium.
Description
Washington School for the Deaf (WSD) serves eligible students from birth through 21 years in an American Sign Language (ASL)/English bilingual instructional environment. The academic & residential services provide a 24 hour learning environment that encourages students to communicate freely, grow emotionally & socially, & achieve higher standards.
WSD has a preschool program, elementary & secondary departments, & the Washington Career Academy for the Deaf (WaCAD).
Students benefit from small class size and personal attention from teachers who are certified in the education of Deaf.
WSD is an ASL-English bilingual program, promoting literacy in both languages. Deaf staff members provide excellent language & role models for the students.
