At Road & Trail, our mission is to improve physical fitness, mental health, self-esteem, and confidence within at-risk communities.

You may know us by our former name, Why Community—while our name has evolved, our mission and impact remain the same. We are proud to continue this work as the same nonprofit, with an even stronger commitment to the communities we serve.

Our primary focus is youth, working to combat childhood obesity and promote lifelong healthy habits across all backgrounds. We also serve veterans navigating PTSD, breast cancer survivors rebuilding strength and confidence, and physically challenged athletes—creating inclusive opportunities for movement, healing, and connection.

Each year, we provide over 2,000 individuals with complimentary race entries to local runs, walks, and triathlons. These aren’t just events—they are life-changing experiences. For many participants, crossing the finish line represents resilience, transformation, and a renewed sense of self.

Beyond individual impact, we extend our support by offering complimentary race entries to local nonprofits. These entries fuel peer-to-peer fundraising efforts, empowering communities to rally around causes they care about.

Since launching our programs, over 10,000 individuals have crossed the finish line, and together, we’ve helped raise more than $2 million for nonprofits.
