Weld Seattle's Mission:
Weld Seattle empowers system-impacted individuals to rebuild their lives. Weld provides innovative housing, employment, and holistic resources for successful reintegration, benefiting both the individuals and the greater community.
Description:
Recently awarded "Organization of the Year" by the Washington State Leadership Board, Weld Seattle is dedicated to supporting formerly incarcerated individuals. We serve those reentering from homelessness, and individuals with active addiction, through a novel approach that positively impacts both the individuals and the larger Seattle community. We connect our members with essential resources such as recovery housing, employment pathways, and a nurturing community, promoting long-term success and reintegration.
Our unique housing model repurposes temporarily donated properties, transforming vacant spaces into safe and supportive living environments. Each house is managed by a trusted house manager and supported by Weld staff with lived experience, offering culturally responsive peer mentorship.
Weld Works, our temporary-to-permanent labor service, connects people with high-demand employment opportunities in various industries and trades. We provide tools, training, certifications, and education, breaking down barriers to workforce reentry and securing long-term employment.
We are currently developing 1426 - our new, collaborative reentry resource center, located at 1426 S. Jackson Street. This center will essentially be a “one-stop shop” for people reentering the community by providing access to essential resources such as housing, public services, employment, and mental health and recovery resources.
Weld Seattle's innovative approach benefits the entire community by:
Strengthening the local economy through increased employment and spending
Improving public safety by providing stable housing and support for at-risk individuals
Enhancing mental health and well-being by addressing substance use disorders and underlying issues
Our strong sense of community and shared experiences are at the heart of Weld Seattle. Combined with housing, employment opportunities, guidance, and tangible resources, we offer a path to a brighter future for those who might have lost hope.
Our model has achieved the following results:
Weld Works has provided job opportunities for over 500 people since July 2019.
Weld Housing has offered more than 20,000 nights of shelter for members.
We have put over $2.2M in the hands of King County residents facing homelessness through work-first employment opportunities.
