OUR PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF SERVICE

AT THE VANCOUVER SOCIETY OF ST. VINCENT DE PAUL, we operate a FOOD PANTRY, giving away on average of OVER two tons of food each day. We also help our neighbors in need with UTILITY ASSISTANCE, TOILETRIES, CLOTHING, EMERGENCY SHELTER VOUCHERS, GAS AND LAUNDRY VOUCHERS and many other services that are requested on any given day.

But, by far, the majority of our financial resources are committed to RENT ASSISTANCE, helping individuals and families to keep the roof over their heads. Because of the lingering effects of the pandemic, rising inflation, and the uncertainties of the current economy, this online WASHINGTON GIVES fundraiser sponsored by The Community Foundation of Southwest Washington and 501 Commons has never been more important in supporting our mission.  Demand for our services remains very high.

OUR MISSION AND ENCOUNTERS WITH THE POOR:

The Society has made all the difference in families’ lives when they hit obstacles such as food insecurity and the threat of eviction.  We are helping them to maintain their homes and their dignity. Generous donors from the four Catholic parishes in Vancouver make up our conference: The Proto-Cathedral of St. James the Greater, St. Joseph Parish, Our Lady of Lourdes, and Holy Redeemer. In addition to the parishes, our VOLUNTEERS  and MANY COMMUNITY DONORS with big hearts support this mission.

Our Mission statement says: "Inspired by the Gospel values of charity and compassion for all, and in an effort to promote human dignity, the Vancouver Conference of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul provides food, clothing, shelter, and other forms of assistance to people in need".

SHARING EMPATHY WITH THOSE WE SERVE:

We seek to understand our brothers and sisters in Christ and we  encourage the poor to help themselves when ever possible to promote self-sufficiency. We provide all services with the utmost confidentiality.

In March,  a family we had helped with emergency shelter delivered a heart warming letter to us:

"My family and I want to say Thank you.  A couple of years ago your organization helped my family and myself.  We were living in a Motel.  I called for help.  We were having a hard time paying for our room.  The person I talked to said your organization could pay for one day. Later that day, I received a call.  The person told me you could pay for a week.  We were very grateful. Today we are dropping a donation of clothing and other items [to you]. My granddaughter bought the hygiene items with her own money".  Sincerely, Mrs. V. and family

Please consider a gift to the Vancouver St. Vincent DePaul Society Conference so we can continue this good work of serving others with kindness and compassion, feeding many households and keeping families in their homes. Learn more at:
