Union Cultural Center

A nonprofit organization

At Union Cultural Center (UCC), we are creating a thriving community through cultural arts!

Our organization provides a valuable cultural space and transformative education for all ages that requires funds to pay our artists living wages and maintain our operations.

Our vision is an interconnected community where all individuals feel a sense of belonging and "inpowered* to develop their most authentic selves.

Since 1997, UCC has provided a welcoming space to connect and learn authentic cultural arts as a form of building community and challenging the social structures that keep us from being our most authentic selves. The art forms practiced at the UCC are transformative tools of resistance, historically birthed during the times of enslavement. Today these arts have adapted to address issues of isolation, cultural disconnection, health disparities, and internalized feelings of shame and worthlessness due to systems of oppression.

At our beautiful space in Seattle's Chinatown-International District, we provide weekly cultural arts classes taught by master level artists representing the African Diaspora. We partner with schools to provide cultural arts education from preschool to college level students.  We are preserving traditional food ways through our cooking classes and uplifting the next generation of healers through our Nourishian Training program. Our signature event Grounded in Freedom showcases the connection between cultural arts and land and elevates the vast wisdom held by our ancestors, despite the exploitation by colonial systems.
