Mission

Improve student outcomes and teacher effectiveness by placing representative, culturally responsive tutors directly into classrooms.

Description

Our public school systems are challenged in their ability to serve all students well. With limited classroom resources and a majority of teachers who do not represent the cultures and backgrounds of the students they serve, achievement gaps begin early and widen over time. This makes it difficult for historically marginalized students to succeed academically, stay in school, prepare for college, and ultimately, compete for today’s highly-skilled careers. TIPS promotes equity, contributing to the closure of achievement gaps by putting representative, culturally responsive tutors into schools to elevate students, support teachers, and improve learning for all. Our unique, flexible model emphasizes collaboration to optimize tutor placements based on need and availability. TIPS manages all employment-related requirements for school partners, facilitating communication and administration for excellent program support.

Students: receive academic support from an additional caring adult – ideally one with whom they can connect and receive emotional, social, and cultural support as well.

Schools: access diverse, flexible, qualified, cost efficient support staff, while TIPS manages employment and administrative responsibilities.

Teachers: benefit from classroom support and collaboration, which allows them to maximize their time teaching, planning, and working with individual students.

Tutors: receive PAID in-classroom experience, exposure to education systems, and access to a network of professional mentors.

TIPS is the only local non-profit serving in this vital capacity. Please give today and enable us to help the students who need it most.
