Youth Violence Prevention through Arts Education
We are expanding! We are outgrowing our space and are moving our office around the corner in another unit while expanding our current studio space. This will provide more opportunity for more youth mentorship for Youth Collective and creative space for artists. Your gift will support renovations and sustainability!
Here are snapshots of our current programming:
C.L.A.Y. (Creative Leaders Affirming Youth)
10-session healthy relationship, social/emotional support, and youth violence prevention curriculum partnered with local high schools, middle school and elementary school.
Youth Collective Mentorship
A 9-month after-school leadership and activism mentoring pathway for high schoolers. Scholars from Rainier Beach and Franklin High School are mentored through five different pathways: CLAY peer advocacy, NO Excuses Campaign, Dance, Spoken Word, Photography, and Design+Illustration.
Power UP Summer Enrichment
A 4-week summer program for incoming 9th grade scholars (Class of 2028) to prepare them for high school transition. Focuses will be on financial literacy, social and emotional literacy, and life skills through art engagement, team building, activities, and field trips.
Dance Classes + Studio Sessions
We offer fundamental Hip Hop Street Style dance: Kids Beginner and Intermediate Breaking classes, Locking and Popping and Adult Breaking. Our space is partnered with Cypher Queenz, a Bgirl Collective, and open sessions for dancers to practice in a safe and empowering environment.
4TheLuvOfIt
Our annual youth outreach event always inspires, challenges and addresses real issues with a focus on violence prevention through presentations and arts exhibits from the Youth Collective. Our Hip Hop Street Dance competition celebrates youth lives and creativity and sheds light on barriers that hold us back as well - so we can see more young lives thrive. Our NO Excuses Campaign also provides trainings for leaders in the dance scene who want to create safe spaces and have no tolerance for violence, sexual misconduct or toxic behavior.
Thank you to our monthly donors, Board, staff and amazing interns for your commitment during such a hard and trying year. As we always say, community changes when community comes together.
