Thalia's Umbrella

A nonprofit organization

Mission

Thalia's mission is to produce plays that dance on the line between comedy and tragedy, taking the light of life seriously and the serious lightly; to create a space where, in Robert Frost's words, "the work is play for mortal stakes." We welcome under Thalia's Umbrella other artists-visual, physical, musical-who also dance on that line.

Description

We are a young organization of veteran theater artists.  Producing Artistic Director Terry Edward Moore has been a professional actor and director for over 40 years, including 30 years in the Seattle area.  Terry was one of the founders of the Seattle Shakespeare Company, and was Co-Artistic Director there for six years.  Associate Daniel Wilson has been a professional director for over 35 years, the last 30 in Seattle, and has directed theater and opera from coast to coast.   We produce once a year.  In addition to serving the (already well-served) Seattle theater community, where the play involves a specific community (such as the parents of special-needs children in the case of JOE EGG), we plan to reach out to that community.

Thalia's Umbrella is fiscally sponsored by Shunpike.

Recognition

Our first three productions all received Footlight Awards from the Seattle Times, and two have received a Gypsy Rose Lee Award.
