Teachers of Color Foundation

A nonprofit organization

Mission

In our mission to mirror the classroom diversity in the Edmonds School District, Teachers of Color Foundation provides people of color employed in the district, the opportunities, scholarships, and support to pursue an educational career in the Edmonds School District.

"You are not only helping me; you are literally changing the face of education"                   Leon J., TOC Scholar 2020

Description

In 2016, the Teachers of Color (TOC) Foundation was formed in response to feedback received from students and community members regarding equity in education. Students have been increasingly vocal for the teachers, administration and curriculum to reflect their diverse backgrounds. While students of color represent over 50% of the population, teachers of color represent less than 15% of the teaching staff.

In 2022, the TOC scholarship program has grown to 16 Scholars in the program at various stages in their teacher certificate process including two scholars attending Masters Programs for School Administrators.  In partnership with the Edmonds School District and financial supporters, Scholars receive:

  • Full Scholarships
  • Race & equity training
  • Emergency funding access
  • Mentoring support
  • Student teaching living stipends

100% of your donation will provide direct support to our amazing TOC Scholars working to earn their teaching certificate.

Partnerships

The TOC Foundation partners with the following organizations:
Hazel Miller Foundation      Edmonds School District
Edmonds College       City University      Peoples Bank
UW Bothell
