About Us
We are a group of people who live and/or work in Renton. We care greatly about building a sustainable community — one that fosters connections between people, protects natural resources, and treads as lightly as possible on the Earth. Our mission is to foster a healthier community and planet.
We support sustainability, human rights, and food equity through a number of projects. These include our Community Farm, Sustainability Education Classes, Food Waste Rescue, and our newly planted Food Forest! We are a secular and low-barrier organization.
Thank you to the many, many community members who have helped our organization throughout the years. We would not be making the kind of impact we are without all of our volunteers and committed participants in our programs. Together, we can continue to create a more sustainable and just community for all of us.

What We're Doing!
Food Justice Initiatives
We are partnering with local organizations like REACH and St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church to expand our community feeding efforts. These collaborations focus on redistributing rescued food to ensure that no one goes hungry, particularly those facing food insecurity in South King County. By creating a system of sustainable food practices, we are also ensuring that more of this food goes directly to those who need it most, rather than ending up in landfills.
Community Education and Egagement
We’re working to integrate education programs that teach sustainable food practices such as food preservation, gardening, and waste prevention. These hands-on workshops, hosted throughout the year, help our community members learn how to sustainably manage their own food, as well as empower them to tackle food waste in their own homes. Topics range from backyard gardening to building long-term sustainable systems at home.
Food Forest Project: Building a Sustainable Future Together
This year, we completed our new Food Forest, a community effort that has brought people together to create a long-term, sustainable food source. Our goal with this project is to have a place where local volunteers can come together to grow healthy produce that will be harvested and distributed to local hunger relief programs. The Food Forest is part of our larger vision of creating self-sustaining solutions for community nourishment while also fostering a spirit of collaboration and care.
Why Give?
As we continue to grow these projects, we rely on your generosity to help us do this vital work! Your donations help fund our operations (fuel for food transport, electricity and rent for our food storage, repairs for our garden, and more!), support community workshops, and make sure our food rescue efforts are efficient and sustainable.
We are incredibly grateful for your support as we work to cultivate not only fresh, healthy food but also hope and resilience in our community. Together, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of our neighbors and ensure a sustainable future for all.
Thank you for considering a donation to Sustainable Renton on #GivingTuesday!
