Soos Creek Botanical Garden & Heritage Center

A nonprofit organization

Mission

Soos Creek Botanical Garden is dedicated to promoting the enjoyment, understanding and conservation of plants and the natural world along with our community’s local history through education, research, and stewardship.

Description

Soos Creek Botanical Garden and Heritage Center sits on a 23 acre site located within the city of Auburn. Admission is free and the Garden is open to the public Wednesdays through Saturdays mid-March through mid-November. Its focus is horticultural display, education and history of the local area. Volunteers are essential to our organization and contribute many hours annually as grounds maintenance aides, docents, event helpers and other essential functions.

A stroll through the beautifully designed display gardens includes the Rain Garden, Heritage Flower Garden, Elizabeth Fenzl Garden Room, Schaefer Pond Garden and the stunning Carlmas Long Borders with their year-round interest. The Rosarian Walk, installed in 2022, features heritage roses.

A Master Gardener Growing Groceries Demonstration Vegetable Garden is also featured. This Garden incorporates raised vegetable beds and fruit trees.  Crops from this Garden are harvested throughout the season and donated to local food banks.

The Pavilion by the Pond showcases the 'million dollar view' of the Carlmas Long Borders. It is used for Garden events and presentations, as well as being available to rent for special events. The Pavilion is the perfect venue for weddings, vow renewals, programs, outdoor classes, music, art, drama, family reunions, memorials, and events of all kinds. It can accommodate groups of up to 80 guests.  See details on the sooscreekbotanicalgarden.org website.

SCBG hosts a series of free monthly educational programs which are held in our Pavilion by the Pond. Programs include such topics as How to have Healthy Soil,  Amazing Woodpeckers, Flowering Shrubs and a Bonsai Demo.

Our Heritage Center is devoted to the history of the early settlers of the 70 square mile area called the Soos Creek Plateau. An extensive collection of early photos, historical maps and artifacts of the region are on display.
