The future of abortion is in our hands.

In 2015, Shout Your Abortion (SYA) co-founder Amelia Bonow’s abortion story went viral, sparking an outpouring of people talking about their abortions alongside the hashtag #ShoutYourAbortion. Back then, the world couldn’t comprehend the idea that someone would speak openly and unapologetically about their abortion, and Amelia’s story flooded the media, landing cover stories in both the LA Times and NY Times. 

Fast forward to 2024: it’s not breaking news when people talk about their abortions; being open about having an abortion is increasingly common. Many abortion supporters readily identify themselves as “pro-abortion,” and messages like “abortion is normal” are part of the cultural vernacular. The media landscape has transformed completely. There is much more work to be done, but we’ve made some astounding progress.

SYA is proud to have been at the epicenter of much of this change. We have an undeniable track record when it comes to galvanizing people, creating compelling messaging, and sharing critical information. We aren’t abortion providers and we aren’t politicians—we are experts at moving the needle, getting people activated, and rallying people in support of abortion access.

Abortion is front and center this election season, and your inbox is probably already flooded with fundraising pleas from politicians offering doomsday scenarios and speaking as though they alone can fix the crisis. Of course we want this country to elect pro-abortion candidates, but ultimately, we refuse to wait around for politicians or courts. We are empowering a base of activists who are working relentlessly to help people access abortion right now, regardless of where they live and what the restrictions may be. This is work that needs to be done regardless of who is in office, and it’s work that we are uniquely prepared for. SYA has always been uncompromising in our values and we’ve always been willing to say what others won’t. We’ve always worked boldly, and this moment calls for nothing less.

When you give to SYA, your donation supports projects like pro-abortion billboards in red states, widely disseminating information about how to find abortion pills and use them safely, seeding pro-abortion messages across the country, in both urban and rural communities. We provide materials, trainings, and resources to countless activists who are working to normalize abortion and increase access in communities all over the country. And although our work is focused in the US, SYA has relationships with many international movements and we are extremely proud that our materials are used all over the world. These connections will only continue to grow. As the fight for abortion access and bodily autonomy continues, our solidarity and commitment deepens.

Shout Your Abortion (SYA) is normalizing abortion and elevating safe paths to access, regardless of legality. SYA makes resources, campaigns, and media intended to arm existing activists, create new ones, and foster collective participation in abortion access all over the country.
