Mission

The Shattered Glass Project is a theatre company with the mission to amplify the voices of theatre artists who have been marginalized on the basis of their gender or sex.

Description

The Shattered Glass Project empowers artists to tell their own stories

  •  We workshop and produce new plays by playwrights with a lived experience of being marginalized because of their gender;
  •  We re-imagine the classical canon through the eyes and hearts of marginalized actors, directors and designers;
  • We provide unique opportunities to create and grow professionally through our Director and Playwright Incubator Program.

What's Happening at TSGP?

July 2022: TSGP is one of two local theatre companies who are awarded a Hope Corps Grant from the City of Seattle to pay creative workers to plan and execute the 2023 Incubator/Mentor Program.

June 2023: All New Cells written by Aliza Goldstein and directed by 2021 I/M program cohort member Alison Kozar completes a successful run at Theatre Off Jackson.

July 2023:  Sponsored by a Hope Corps Grant from the City of Seattle, the second cohort of the Incubator/Mentor Program begins meetings at  the Green Room (our rehearsal studio at the MLK FAME Center in Madison Valley), including 3 directors and 4 playwrights. The teaching artists are led by local theatre artists Rachel Atkins as the playwright mentor and Annie Lareau as the director mentor.

August 2023: The first annual Through the Windows: A Friendraiser is performed in the Green Room, utilizing the 12-foot windows in our studio which is a former elementary school classroom. Through the Windows features twelve short plays by twelve local playwrights performed by six actors in, behind, between, and through the windows, for an audience seated inside and outside the Green Room.

December 2023: The 2023 Incubator/Mentor Cohort presents 20-minutes staged readings from the three new Plays in Progress at Seattle Public Theater. Audience members have the opportunity to interact with the directors, playwrights and actors in a feedback session after each reading, facilitated by director mentor (and Seattle Public Theater emerita artist director) Annie Lareau.

February-March 2024: Incubator/Mentor Cohort members attend the Theatre Puget Sound Unified General Auditions and hold callback auditions for their shows which will be produced as part of the 2024 New Works Festival: New Voices, New Narratives.

March-April 2024: Rehearsals begin for the 2024 New Works Festival: New Voices, New Narratives.

May 7-8, 2024: GiveBIG 2024! Friends of The Shattered Glass Project can make a gift and buy tickets to the New Works Festival AT THE SAME TIME!

May 9, 2024: Opening Night for the 2024 New Works Festival: New Voices, New Narratives!

August 2024: Through the Windows: A Friendraiser, Part 2 will take place in the Green Room, featuring two new short works by Associate Artists Carolynne Wilcox and Miriam Tobin.

October 2024: A Lonely Realization by Darby Sherwood and Emily Stone, last featured in the 2023 Script Development Festival, will be produced at a venue to be determined.
