Mission

The mission of Seattle Children's Theatre is to provide children of all ages access to professional theatre, with a focus on new works, and theatre education.

Vision

Seattle Children's Theatre's vision is to transform the lives of young audiences, creating a more empathetic, hopeful, and resilient world.

Description

Seattle Children's Theatre (SCT) sparks imagination, inspires hope, and creates a lifelong appreciation for the arts through live theatre and theatre education. For many children, SCT is their first, and sometimes, sole exposure to live theatre. And they thank us enthusiastically with their oohs, aahs, laughter, and cheers.

SCT, founded in 1975, is one of the first professional theatres created exclusively to serve children and youth and is the only such theatre in the Pacific Northwest. In our 2022-2023 season children, families, and classrooms experienced a creative mix of productions like The Boy Who Kissed the Sky inspired by the creativity of young Jimi Hendrix; a holiday favorite, Paddington Saves Christmas; and a colorful and inspiring co-production of Carmela Full of Wishes with Chicago Children’s Theatre that was peppered with Spanish dialogue. We were thrilled to present two contemporary shows by the innovative theatre artist, Paige Hernandez. And currently, we are offering new ways to overcome our fears and learning how to make our dreams come true in a contemporary re-imagination of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

Ticket price should never be a barrier for any child, family, or classroom to attend one of our productions. Your support helps SCT provide free and low-cost tickets to any young person or family who expresses a need, and underwrite performances for all first and fifth-grade Seattle Public School classrooms.

When you make a gift to SCT, you ensure that children, now and for generations to come, can experience live theatre designed to inspire them to be well-rounded, individual thinkers who will grow up to be leaders in their communities. Please join us in this important work!
