For over 80 years, Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestra (SYSO) has been more than a training ground for young musicians. It’s a vibrant community where talent is nurtured, friendships are built, and music connects us all.
Each year, SYSO serves more than 1,300 young people through seven orchestral ensembles, in-school music programs, a conservatory led by professional local artists, and summer camps, intensives, and international tours. Students come from across the region, bringing diverse voices and experiences that come together in powerful harmony. As the needs of our young musicians and their families have evolved, SYSO has continued to grow and adapt—expanding access, developing new programs, and strengthening our impact through music education.
Our programs thrive thanks to the support of our community of students, families, teaching artists, partner organizations, and donors like you. Together, we’re not just creating music—we’re building a space where young people feel seen, supported, and inspired. Your gift helps remove financial barriers so more students can access high-quality music education and be part of something bigger than themselves.
When you give, you’re helping grow a community where every young person belongs and every voice matters.
“To me, the magic of music comes from the bond that immediately connects strangers in a shared vision and understanding. Through SYSO, each week I rediscover the joy of contributing toward a purpose greater than myself.”
– Juliana Z., SYSO oboist
“Through SYSO, I gained leadership experience, broadened my technique, and built meaningful friendships. One of my most memorable moments was performing at Benaroya Hall—hearing the crowd cheer was electrifying and affirmed all our hard work. SYSO showed me that with dedication and commitment, anything is within reach. Both SYSO and MYSE have helped me grow not only as a musician but also as a communicator, leader, and community member.”
– Amani T., SYSO violinist
“SYSO changed the trajectory of my life. The confidence I gained, the artistic identity I developed, and the belief that young musicians can achieve extraordinary things all started in [SYSO’s] rehearsals and programs. Supporting SYSO means opening doors for passionate young players who simply need the chance to grow. I’m living proof of what that chance can become.”
– Andrew Angelos, SYSO French horn alumnus
We are immensely grateful to SYSO musicians, families, alumni, coaches, conductors, faculty, board, staff, volunteers, and supporters who sustain our work. Thank you to everyone who has attended a concert or performance over SYSO’s eight decades—your presence empowers SYSO’s musicians and artist faculty. Everything we do is only possible because of your support.
