$5,000 Goal

Help us raise $5,000 to support our 50th anniversary of citizen-diplomacy work!

In recognition of STSCA's 50th anniversary, we have set a goal of $5,000 for the 2023 GiveBIG campaign. These funds will allow us to host delegates from Tashkent to Seattle, complete a book documenting the many accomplishments in the first 50 years for the sister city relationship, and take on other special projects honoring our 50th anniversary.

2023 marks the 50-year anniversary of the sister-city relationship between Seattle, Washington, and Tashkent, Uzbekistan, a city of about 3 million people in a landlocked country that was part of the Soviet Union until 1991. A partnership between the people of Tashkent and Seattle was especially unlikely during the Cold War years of the 1970s, but that is exactly what was formed in 1973. It was the first sister-city relationship between a US city and a city in the Soviet Union!

Over the past 50 years, the Seattle-Tashkent Sister City Association (STSCA) has promoted friendship, communication, and people-to-people connections between the citizens of Tashkent and Seattle. We also organize local activities to share the culture of Uzbekistan and Central Asia with the residents of Seattle and Washington state, such as our annual Navruz (Central Asian New Year) celebration.

STSCA has hosted mayors, deputy mayors, and City councilmembers from Tashkent. In addition to official visits, we promote exchanges between people from both countries, including teachers, schoolchildren, university students, actors, healthcare providers, lawyers, journalists, and social-service professionals. We are creating new relationships and spreading an appreciation of Uzbek culture in the US and American culture in Uzbekistan.

Now more than ever, our long-lived ties are important as the basis for people-to-people diplomacy. We are celebrating this milestone by laying the foundation for the next 50 years of citizen diplomacy.

We are excited to embark on the next 50 years of our partnership, and we hope that you will join us! Your financial support will make it possible for us to continue to make meaningful connections between the people of Seattle and Tashkent. Katta rakhmat (Thank you) for your generosity!
