Through jazz education that liberates and inspires, Seattle JazzED increases access to the music room, celebrates student expression and builds lasting connection rooted in community.

Description

At Seattle JazzED, our goal is for every student to experience the life-changing magic of creativity, courage, and compassion that comes from a dedicated education in jazz – a quintessentially Black American art form.

We welcome students in grades 4–12 at every skill level, from first-time beginners to experienced performers. Students might join a weekly ensemble, attend a workshop, perform around the city, or spend the summer deepening their musicianship alongside professional teaching artists.

But what truly sets JazzED apart is how students learn together.

Our programs bring young musicians from across Seattle and surrounding communities into one shared musical space that reflects the gender, racial, and economic diversity of our region. Students build friendships across neighborhoods, learn from each other’s experiences, and grow together through the collaborative spirit of jazz.

Jazz is deeply woven into Seattle’s cultural history, and at JazzED we believe the next generation of musicians should reflect the full community that surrounds them.

Every family chooses the payment level that works for them through our sliding-scale tuition model. Families contribute what they’re able, and our community of donors help make up the difference so that every student who wants to learn jazz can participate.
