Because pets and their people deserve the best chance

Keeping a pet happy and healthy shouldn’t mean sacrificing something else. The Best Chance Program is the latest initiative funded by the Seattle Animal Shelter Foundation (SASF) that establishes accessible wellness clinics to give pets and their owners their best chance at a healthy human-pet bond by providing veterinary care, food, and supplies.

  1. “It’s so important to have pets, and these vaccinations make sure they’re healthy,” said Variana Vega, mom to a 2-year-old Pit Bull Terrier named Blanca.
  2. Thor, a 4-year-old Poodle mix, had his first clinic visit. His owner, who asked not to be named, said she was dealing with financial difficulties and was grateful for the shelter’s resources.  “I need help that’s not biased, that’s friendly, that I can trust, and where I will walk away with my head held high,” she said.
  3. Clinic attendees Hedge and Moon Metreyeon brought their 2-year-old Border Collie/Staffordshire Terrier mix, Lochness, noting the rising costs of veterinary care were impossible to keep up with. “We all just want them to be healthy and happy, but to have it be something that’s out of reach is soul crushing sometimes because you’re like, all I want is to be able to take care of them."

With SASF funding, the Seattle Animal Shelter continues to offer in-house services that support Seattle's most at-risk pets, and in 2023 we achieved record levels of support with:

   - 952 animals in the behavior program

   - Serving 706 animals from our pet food bank

   - 1,383 spays and neuters

   - Adopting, reuniting, or rescuing 1,937 dogs, cats, and critters

Please help us provide funding for life-changing programs for the dogs, cats, and critters of the Seattle Animal Shelter and community members throughout the city.
