South King Tool Library

A nonprofit organization

Mission

The South King Tool Library provides access to tools and training in order to help maintain neighborhoods, build community and reduce unnecessary consumption with households of all forms including low-income residents and under-served populations.

Description

The South King Tool Library (SKTL) offers tool lending, repair of household items, and classes and training to empower all community members to learn DIY skills, share resources, reduce waste and save money. All of our programs are free! Together we make green living equitable, accessible and economical for everyone in South King and North Pierce Counties, regardless of income or experience.

In 2020 we kept over 10,000 pounds of solid material in use and out of the landfill, and saved our community over $45,000 in unnecessary costs. Your donation will help SKTL expand our free programs with a focus on low-income, BIPOC and immigrant households and small businesses, including:

*Tool lending for home, yard, garden, small business, auto and bicycle maintenance and repair (no gas-powered/polluting tools)

*Specialized classes to learn skills like patio gardening, water and energy conservation, food preservation, and how to repair common household items.

*Repair events to fix small appliances, electronics, clothing and textiles, toys and furniture

SKTL also partners with many other organizations and community groups to listen and respond to the interests and needs of the people we serve. We encourage you to ask questions and get involved. Environmental stewardship is an equity issue. Let's work together to share tools, training and empowerment for a healthier future!
