Reading Partners

A nonprofit organization

Mission

Reading Partners' mission is to help children become lifelong readers by empowering communities to provide individualized instruction with measurable results. Reading Partners works to provide evidence-based tutoring for students at Title I high-poverty elementary schools throughout Seattle.

Description

Reading Partners is a national children's literacy organization that provides one-on-one reading instruction through the support of community volunteers. With the vision that all Seattle students will have the literacy skills they need to reach their full potential in the classroom and beyond, our efforts target Seattle's socioeconomically disadvantaged elementary students who have fallen between one month and two-and-a-half years below grade-level reading proficiency. Reading Partners enables students to move toward or achieve reading proficiency through data-informed, curriculum-driven, one-on-one tutoring. In each school, Reading Partners has a dedicated reading center space, and works with school faculty to identify 40+ students for tutoring. Reading Partners recruits between 60-80 volunteers per school who collectively contribute over 7,000 tutoring sessions during the school year. During the 2023-2024 school year, Reading Partners Seattle is serving 11 Title I elementary schools in the Seattle area and will serve over 350 students in need this school year.
