Mission

Our mission is to provide an inclusive space and opportunity for amateur musicians where they can be welcomed at all skill levels to participate in an orchestral setting, community, and perform in concert for free to the public.  We are no-auditions orchestras that provide a low-pressure opportunity to make music with wonderful people and explore great repertoire.

Description

The Ravenna String Orchestra program was founded in 1996, by Lorraine Hughes and Judy Drake, from an idea which they shared in creating a community orchestra. Once established, an increase in group membership quickly led to the establishment of a second orchestra within the same program, both fully directed and conducted by Judy and co-directed by Lorraine. For a majority of the program’s existence, the program based its rehearsals and concerts in the Ravenna neighborhood of Seattle, thus contributing to the namesake. Judy and Lorraine continued to lead the program until 2017.

Since 2017 to the present, the program has been directed by Nathan Harrison, conductor of the Ravenna String Sinfonia group, and Joseph Pollard White, conductor of Ravenna Strings.

Due to logistical obstacles following the COVID-19 global pandemic, the Ravenna Strings  now hold their rehearsals at the PNA Phinney Center on Phinney Ridge.

Maximize your impact!

Please donate and you can help us continue to build our community of musicians by funding soloists, purchasing music, hiring coaches, paying our conductors, and putting on free concerts. We are so grateful for your donations…THANK YOU!
