Mission
Rain City Projects supports playwrights and their work in the Pacific Northwest. We develop projects to raise the profile of the playwright within the working theater community, and build relationships between theater artists and producers. We publish. We grant. We ignite solidarity in the Seattle playwriting community with lively brunches, salons, readings, and speed dating between writers and directors.
What We Do
CURRENT EVENTS AND PROJECTS:
-
Publishing! Manifesto, Volume 6 was published in late 2023! Ten to Places, edited by playwright, A. Rey Pamatmat, is a collection of ten-minute plays. Volume 6 features a manifesto written by A. Rey Pamatmat and these 19 amazing playwrights: Anuhea Brown, Barbara Lindsay, Beth Raas-Bergquist, Bret Fetzer, Brian Dang, Emily Haver, July Monday, Kelleen Conway Blanchard, Ki Gottberg, Ky Weeks, Maggie Lee, Matt Smith, Matthew Weaver, Michael Yichao, Mikki Gilette, Ozzy Wagner, Suzanne Bailie, Wayne Rawley, and Willow Mclaughlin
- Book Distribution! We mailed the Manifesto, Volume 6 to hundreds of theaters and college theater departments across the country.
- (Re)Treats! (Re)Treats are three-hour long writing in-person or on-line retreats hosted by Rain City Projects. We provide writing prompts and timed sections of writing.
-
Play Party Challenge! We've had two successful Play Party Challenges. We held the first at Jules Mays and the second upstairs of Theater Off Jackson. Playwrights wrote three page plays based on a prompt we provided. At both events, scripts were cast, and grand performances followed.
-
Playwright/Director Speed Date/Roundup! Playwrights and Directors introduced themselves in a comfortable circle sharing experience with plenty of time afterwards for people to connect.
-
Business Development Workshop! We held two workshops last year one on the New Play Exchange and one on Playwriting Basics.
-
Community Collaborations! We love community and collaborations. In 2025, we partnered with SCRIBLab for workshops at their conference, helped TPS with their playwriting generals, and did the first round curation of NW2 Solo Act at Union Arts. In early 2026, we collaborated with Union Arts to hold an in person (Re)treat as well as hosting a reception for the New Works Northwest Festival. We have an upcoming collaboration with Seattle Public Theater during their Distillery Program!
