Mission

Through on-farm research, farmer education and policy advocacy, Organic Seed Alliance (OSA) advances ethical seed solutions to meet food and farming needs in a changing world.

Description

At Organic Seed Alliance, we believe in the hope inherent in every seed and the resilience of farmers and food systems relying on seed that can be saved, improved, adapted and shared.

We need that hope and resilience as we continue to face a pandemic that exposed vulnerabilities in our food supply.

OSA meets the seed needs of farmers in the Puget Sound and beyond, needs that have increased as agrochemical conglomerates have merged and monopolized two-thirds of the world's seed supply. They've reduced farmers' choices and pushed seed that is genetically modified, grown with pesticides, and restricted by patents. To encourage a food system that puts people and planet first, OSA's programs engage farmers in growing the supply and biodiversity of regional seed; equip farmers to breed, produce and sell seed; and promote policies that support sustainable agriculture and farmers' rights to save seed.

The need for regionally adapted and sourced seed has never been greater. Your donation during GiveBIG will help us:
• train more Puget Sound farmers to grow and adapt seed
• expand our outreach to better understand the seed needs of small-scale farmers from across the region
• enhance the diversity and resilience of organic crops, from quinoa to carrots, through plant breeding research that engages local farmers as scientists in the field

OSA's main office is in Port Townsend, and you can visit our research field at Finnriver Farm & Cidery in Chimacum during fall field days. Visit our website for updates on events and to sign up to receive our quarterly newsletter.
