Open Arms Perinatal Services

A nonprofit organization

Mission

Open Arms provides community-based support during pregnancy, birth, and early parenting to nurture strong foundations that last a lifetime.

Description

Open Arms Perinatal Services is a nonprofit dedicated to providing strong community-based, culturally-appropriate support for pregnant people through pregnancy, birth and postpartum. The time around the birth of a baby is a transformational time for women and families; providing support during this period has life-long impacts for baby, mother, and the whole family. Through doula care, childbirth education and new mother support groups, Open Arms achieves better health outcomes, strengthens mother-baby bonding and increases parental self-advocacy skills.

Open Arms serves roughly 300 new parents each year, supporting and caring for low-income families at a pivotal time when the positive impact is most profound and when the cost of being unsupported can be equally staggering. Open Arms' unique services include home visits beginning during pregnancy, attendance at the birth of the baby, and ongoing postpartum support. We provide referrals and early parenting education up to two years after a baby is born. In all of our services, we carefully match clients to care providers from the same community whenever possible, and we have the capacity to work with clients in seventeen different languages. Our work is foundational for maternal-infant health and early learning efforts.
