Formerly known as SWANS, NSWS was developed in early 2007 by dedicated nursing students and faculty from around the state who believe in unifying the voices and philosophies of Washington State nursing students. NSWS exists in order to work towards the common goal of betterment and advancement of nursing as a profession.

Nursing Students of Washington State is the state chapter of the National Student Nurses Association and an independent organization supported in part by the Washington State Nurses Association.

Our mission is to develop a collaborative and cooperative structure between nursing schools within the state to create consistent high standards that support nursing students through education, scholarship, legislation, and networking.

Our purpose is to contribute collectively to the advancement of nursing education in order to promote the highest standards and best practices for nursing students in the state of Washington.

  • To build a cooperative structure between nursing schools and professional organizations within the state to provide programs and events that address fundamental and current professional interests and issues.

  • To encourage and support every nursing student in his or her personal and professional growth and to maintain a dialogue that allows for prioritization of issues and a common agenda.

NSWS membership is available to everyone enrolled in an accredited Washington State school for Registered Nurse licensure at all levels, RNs pursuing their BSN, Pre-Nursing Students, and nursing school faculty.
