Mission

Established in Seattle in 1989, the National Bureau of Asian Research (NBR) is an independent, nonpartisan research institution dedicated to shaping policy on Asia in both the public and private sectors. We conduct original, policy-relevant research, engage decision-makers looking for reliable Asia expertise, and invest in the future by training the next generation through fellowship and internship programs from our Seattle and Washington, D.C., offices. 

We envision a future that is free, open, secure, and prosperous for all.

Our policy-relevant research is conducted by a global network of specialists and tackles critical issues identified by stakeholders in anticipation of future challenges.

At our public events and private briefings in Seattle, Washington, D.C., and cities around the world representatives from the research, government, and business communities address issues related to politics and security, technology and geoeconomics, and energy and environmental security.
