WHAT WE DO
The Mullis Community Senior Center is open and welcoming to all - we are the services and activity hub for all San Juan Island seniors and disabled adults. We’re open M-W-F from 9 AM to 4 PM and on T-Th by appointment.
Annual memberships are available at $25/individual and $40/couple. When you join us you’re supporting our work and you receive benefits in return. Member benefits include monthly newsletters, weekly E-updates, discounts on foot care services and facility rentals, and various discounted or free classes and activities.
The Mullis Center is one of the largest event venues on the island and has multiple meeting rooms, ample parking, a covered patio, and a large level yard, as well as a well-appointed commercial kitchen. The Center is available to rent for retreats, meetings, workshops, memorials, conferences, classes, lectures, and casual or formal gatherings and events of all types. All rental income goes directly to operations and is an important part of our annual budget.
OUR CORNERSTONE PROGRAMS
SENIOR NUTRITION PROGRAM: In partnership with San Juan County and Whatcom Council on Aging, we provide home-delivered meals (Meals on Wheels) three days a week as well as community lunches on Mondays and Wednesdays. All community members and visitors are welcome to join us Mondays and Wednesdays from 11:30-1:00 for a relaxed cafe-style community lunch, prepared on-site from scratch by our kitchen staff, Todd DeWoody and longtime assistant chef, Nancy Geist. For those 60 and better meals are available by donation (suggested $6); for all others, meals are $10. To inquire about home-delivered meals, please contact Debbie Haagensen, at debbieh@sanjuancountywa.gov or 360-370-7526.
FOOT CARE PROGRAM: We have three registered nurses who provide reasonably priced, medical-grade pedicures on-site for seniors and disabled adults, 5 days a week. Fee waivers are available to Medicaid and low-income community members as needed. For more information or to set up an appointment, please contact us at 360-378-2677 or info@mulliscenter.org.
PROGRAMMING: We host various weekly and monthly classes, groups, and activities such as fitness and art classes, Afternoon Socials and ping pong, special lectures/presentations, monthly hikes and outings, quarterly art museum tours, painting, quilting, bingo and more.
HOW WE DO IT
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR: Anna Coffelt-Kuetzing oversees the Mullis Center’s operations, facilities, rentals, and programming, while supporting the Board, managing staff and contractors who provide services to the organization, and weaving the many threads that bring program partners, volunteers, clients, and community members together.
SAN JUAN COUNTY SENIOR SERVICES SPECIALISTS: Debbie Hacoordinatesagensen coordinates the Senior Nutrition Program on San Juan Island and serves as the primary point of contact for seniors and their families seeking services and information available on SJI and beyond. Chelsea Parrott is our floating Senior Services Specialist and splits her time between Lopez, Orcas, and San Juan.
AGING & FAMILY CASE COORDINATOR: Tyler Cornell is the case manager for Medicaid clients in the TSOA/MAC programs on San Juan and Lopez Islands and serves seniors and their family members with local resources and support, including facilitating the Family Caregiver Support Program.
VOLUNTEERS: Make so much possible at The Mullis Community Senior Center. They help with Reception, Home-delivered Meals, Community Meals, and more. Volunteers have always been and always will be the backbone of our organization.
THE BOARD: A dedicated group of community volunteers commits hundreds of hours of leadership and oversight, ensuring that the Mullis Center is sustainable and will be around for years to come.
