Mission

The Museum of Northwest Art collects, preserves, interprets, and exhibits art created in the Pacific Northwest, supports artists, and strives to integrate art into the lives of all people.

Description

With free admission year-round, MoNA is committed to being a welcoming place, where all members of the community experience belonging. MoNA strives to be a place in which connecting through the experience of art can lead to a greater understanding of the human condition.

With its 2,400 artworks and cultural objects, the Museum's Permanent Collection is a living document that honors our shared culture's past and continues to tell the story of our Northwest community into the future.

MoNA's education department provides inclusive and stimulating programming that supports the development and expression of all people. MoNA partners with schools and community organizations to offer free educational programs for youth, families, and adults throughout the year, transforming learning through art.

Our Outreach programs are designed to build relationships within the community. We provide art kits, and foster partnerships with local organizations, distributing art kits in English and Spanish as well as offsite art instruction and other outreach services. Last year, we served 2,540 students from many different walks of life, providing them with critical thinking strategies for the 21st century.

Creativity is an outlet to learn about the world. The arts are a critical part of a student’s life and well-being and make them more active participants. We are growing the next generation of arts supporters: healthy communities provide access to cultural engagement.

Art & Community thrive at MoNA with your support! Invest in the Museum of Northwest Art and Our Community!

Support the Museum of Northwest Art for GiveBIG on May 7th & 8th!

Last Year for GiveBIG 2023, donors like YOU helped MoNA raise $43,000 in support of one of the most vibrant and impactful exhibition and arts education programs in the region. For GiveBIG 2024, will you consider giving in support of the incredible momentum the Museum of Northwest Art is experiencing?

This year, the Museum’s goal is to raise $45,000 through GiveBIG–the statewide two days of giving when generous donors like you come together across Washington to invest in the region's nonprofit organizations that are making a difference.

In 2023, MoNA welcomed a record attendance of more than 34,000 visitors with exhibitions such as Surge: Mapping Transition, Displacement, and Agency in Times of Climate Change. MoNA showcased works from the museum’s permanent collection in Re Building: Celebrating the Role of the Permanent Collection in Building Up MoNA's Significance, Past and Present. The permanent collection now includes over 2,500 historical and contemporary Northwest artworks and cultural objects.

As a dedicated supporter, you know that MoNA is committed to:

Keeping museum admission FREE and accessible so everyone can enjoy the exhibitions and participate in our education programs!

Striving to transform the lives of our community through exhibitions and art initiatives that stimulate reflection and awareness on how we see ourselves and the world in which we live.

Nurturing long-term partnerships with regional schools and community outreach organizations with the goal of offering transformative arts education experiences to youth, teens, and families.

By giving generously to the Museum, YOU are ensuring the vitality of our Northwest community and taking a proactive and impactful step towards creating a diverse and desirable place to live, work and play.

Thank you for making a difference and for supporting your free regional art museum.
