MISSION

Metropolitan Development Council (MDC), founded in 1964, works with and advocates for people experiencing poverty to ensure access to services, resources, and tools needed to create a more equitable community.

VISION

We envision an equitable community with engaged individuals, working together to improve the health and well-being of all community members. We want a safe place to live, to raise a family, and to find meaning and purpose in our daily lives.

Description

MDC was founded in 1964 as a non-profit Community Action Agency. For our more than 55 year history, MDC has responded to community needs by addressing the unique, complex needs of low-income families and students. Our promise is to help in times of crisis, to care in times of need, and to provide guidance in times of opportunity. Our wrap-around services include affordable housing, education and employment support, and mental health/substance use treatment. MDC is governed by a 12-member board, consisting of representatives from populations served by MDC, as well as community stakeholders and businesses, and elected officials.
