The King County Search and Rescue Association (KCSARA) exists to promote cooperation between its 9 Member Units, to represent and be their unified voice and to advocate for matters that affect or require the support of multiple Units. KCSARA became operational on February 1, 1965 as a 501c non-profit, volunteer group and its member units currently include: Seattle Mountain Rescue, Explorer Search and Rescue, King County 4x4 Search and Rescue, Regional Specialized Vehicles Unit, King County Search Dogs, Ski Patrol Rescue Team, Incident Support Team, Northwest Horseback Search and Rescue, and Pacific Northwest Trackers.
Member units are deployed by the King County Sheriff’s Office and every volunteer is a registered Emergency Workers with the Washington State Department of Emergency Management.
We never charge for our services.
100% Non-profit. 100% Donation and Grant Funded. 100% Volunteer.
Every second counts when someone's heart stops beating. Across King County, over 615 search and rescue volunteers stand ready to respond in emergencies, but they face a critical training equipment need.
King County Search and Rescue Association (KCSARA) member unit volunteers dedicate themselves to helping others in their most vulnerable moments. They require proper training to administer life-saving care, including CPR and AED (Automated External Defibrillator) use - skills that can mean the difference between life and death during wilderness and urban missions.
The urgent need: Our volunteer instructors are using aging AED training devices that will soon become inoperable after years of service. These crucial hands-on training tools simulate real-world cardiac emergencies, allowing volunteers to practice the skills they'll need when minutes matter most.
Your impact today: By funding 10 new AED trainers, you'll directly equip hundreds of search and rescue volunteers with the skills to restart hearts and save lives across the many areas they serve. These devices aren't just training tools - they're the foundation of our community's emergency response capability.
Why this matters now: Your support ensures rescuers can confidently use the actual AED models they'll encounter during real emergencies.
Total need is 10 replacement AEDs: $9,350
Suggested donation: $100
This amount helps purchase one-tenth of an AED trainer, making you a vital link in our chain of survival training. For those able to give more generously, $1,000 funds an entire AED trainer that will help prepare hundreds of volunteers for years to come.
When you choose KCSARA's AED trainer project for WA Gives, you're not just donating - you're putting life-saving capability directly into the hands of those who protect those who recreate.
King County Search and Rescue is grateful for the generous support we receive from our corporate sponsors and partners.
