Mission

KYFS promotes the healthy development of children, youth, and families in our community by providing professional counseling, education, and support services.

Programs and Services

KYFS provides early childhood education, mental health and substance use disorder services, after school youth development, and other family support services to help youth and families reach their goals for a better future.

Early Learning:
KYFS’ Head Start and Early Childhood Education and Assistance Programs (ECEAP) are comprehensive, ‘whole-child’ and family-focused preschool services for low-income children ages three to five who live within the Kent School District. Included in our part-day and full-day center-based preschool opportunities, is an intensive combination of high-quality education, health screenings and referrals, family engagement, parent leadership training, and support, as well as 2-3 nutritious meals per day.

Behavioral Health:
KYFS provides counseling services for youth up to age 25 and their families. Our mental health services include youth and family counseling, infant and early childhood counseling, perinatal counseling, substance use disorder counseling, open support groups for children, LGBTQ+ teens, young parents, and care givers. Our program is dedicated to those seeking help by creating services that are compassionate, effective, efficient, and culturally informed.

Our youth-centered approach to substance use disorder treatment services creates a welcoming and supportive environment for clients and families struggling with substance use. By offering a judgement free treatment experience to clients and families, and a positive approach to recovery, we empower clients aged 11-24 with the skills necessary to avoid substance use, make thoughtful decisions, and achieve their goals.

After School:
KYFS offers a comprehensive range of social services, recreational, and educational programs for youth and their families residing in and around the three King County Housing Authority sites. The program supports youth development by providing safe, structured activities during after-school and summer hours, deeply embedded with the Washington State Quality Standards for After-school and Youth Development Programs. Serving youth aged 5 to 19, the curriculum focuses on the core program areas of academic enrichment, social emotional development, college and job readiness, life skills, and recreation.
