Island Roots Housing is dedicated to creating affordable housing solutions that support the people who make our community strong. From teachers and healthcare workers to artists and small business owners, we believe everyone deserves a place to call home. 

Island County is home to people who've built their lives here — teachers, nurses, tradespeople, shop owners, artists, and caregivers. Rising costs and limited supply make housing harder to secure on local wages, and harder for those neighbors to stay. 

Island Roots exists to change that, one permanently affordable home at a time.

We're a community-rooted nonprofit focused on long-term solutions: embracing every opportunity to develop affordable housing and stewarding each project with care so they remain affordable not just today, but for generations. We think of housing the way we think of roads and schools. It's infrastructure that holds a community together.

Thanks to broad-based community support, our first project, Generations Place, is opening this summer. Fourteen 2- and 3-bedroom homes, the first new affordable apartments in Langley in more than 35 years. Generations Place exists because enough people believed it could. 

Generations Place is proof that this community can do its part to address its own housing challenges. And it’s just the beginning. We're now in early planning for several more projects across Island County, and your gift helps make that exploration real — funding the site assessments, partnership building, and community conversations that need to happen before a single shovel goes in the ground.
